I had something similar happen about 6 months ago. Thought it was the vid card, which it could be for you, but my monitor was shot. Eventually all that remained was a shiny silver line thru the middle of my screen.

Oddly enough I had no troubles logging in but they called for an emergency patch to patch the first patch around 3am cst
